Stunning BTCC debut for Parfitt

Posted on 7th June 2021

Rick Parfitt Jnr arrived at Thruxton having never driven the circuit. Not only this but the weather for the weekend promised changeable conditions and having also never driven the car in the wet, expectations were low and the aim was to get laps under the belt and stay out of trouble.

Rick however had other plans and promptly qualified way above expectations and lined up 25th from 30 cars for race one, and this with only two runs as his engine developed an oil leak so Rick had to sit out over half of qualifying, and so wasn’t able to take slicks and go quicker!

Race one went well with Parfitt finishing a strong 21st, race two saw Rick retire with a throttle sensor issue and race three saw Rick drive a masterful race from the back of the grid in wet conditions and ending up only one position away from the points in 16th!

Rick commented: “What a weekend!…I’ve loved every minute and learned soo much and in race three it was all coming together nicely and if only there had been a couple more laps I think I genuinely could have scored some decent points!…something which I would never have thought before the weekend.

Now however we move on to a Snetterton which is a circuit I know well so I’m hoping to put all I have learnt into practice with the firm goal to try and score my first points…let’s rock!’

Round two is at Snetterton on the 13th of June.
